OPEN STUDIOS 2024

OPEN STUDIOS 2024

Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th May, Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June

It is some time since I last took part in Cornwall’s Open Studios but I have decided to take the plunge and do it again.

So for this year’s Open Studios, you are invited to my ‘Studio in the Sky’ at the top of our Victorian home in Helston.  It is well worth the several flights of stairs to reach the calm beamed attic space with its view overlooking Godolphin Hill where I paint and write.

Studios and workshops are very personal spaces and I believe that everything that inspires me: art books, poetry books, fairy tales, shells, stones and fossils, should be with me here in this room where they feel like old friends.   When you visit you are welcome to browse the space, drink tea or wine, eat homemade cake, and take in the atmosphere whilst seeing a painting in progress on the easel.

On the walls and around the studio there will be lots of framed and unframed originals, my photographs (my new passion), signed books, prints, and cards to view or buy.

Just around the corner from me in Station Road, you will find the lovely Ria Poole.  Her studio and home are a delight to visit and will be filled with her energetic mixed-media landscapes and seascapes that fizz with colour and expression.  Two good reasons to visit us in Helston this summer!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

HAPPY NEW YEAR

It feels very good to be welcoming in the New Year.  The weather here in Cornwall is as wet and windy as I have ever seen it but the days are already noticeably longer and that feels good.

As for my plans for this year – I still have Darkling to finish and make as beautiful as I can and am going to be part of an event here on the Lizard this August which I will be able to talk more about soon.

Photography continues to be a growing passion and I am keen to explore image making that is quite separate from my painting.  It would be an obvious step for me to create painterly images in Photoshop and I haven’t ruled it out but I am less interested in reproducing what I can already do with paint and more fascinated by the purity of black and white.

This months print offer is ‘The Cranberry Dawn’
