A murder of crows — the traditional collective noun for a flock of crows, originating from medieval folklore where these birds were associated with ill omens, death, and witchcraft. The name carries within it centuries of unease and fascination, the crow’s intelligence and darkness making it one of the most mythologised of birds: a creature of the threshold, at home in the space between the living world and whatever lies beyond it.
This is a painting about that darkness and that beauty — the crow in its element, the folklore alive in every feather, the air ringing with their raucous call.
