At the winter solstice, the doe runs along the river's edge. The pink moon is rising above the snow. Below the surface, the fish move through the dark water — the world above and the world below held in the same still moment. The mistletoe hangs in the branches overhead, its scent faint and sacred, a reminder of older midwinter rituals, of the magic that gathers at the year’s turning.
This is a painting about the solstice threshold — the doe flies between the land and the water, between the seen and the unseen, between the year that is ending and the one that is about to begin.
