MOVING THROUGH THE DARK ORCHARD print

The fox moves through the dark orchard in the last hour before dawn, Orion's belt still bright above the bare apple trees. The earth is cold and hard underfoot, but the fox knows every root and hollow, every shadow between the trees. There is an ancient intimacy here, between the wild creature and the cultivated land, the orchard held in darkness and the stars beginning to fade.
