The hare runs before the wind, pulling the seasons along. Past the bare trees, over the rich dark earth, beneath a moon that has watched this journey over and over. There is something mythic in this image: the hare as timekeeper, as herald, as the creature that runs always just ahead of what is coming, tireless and ancient.
This painting was chosen as the front cover of The Hare and the Moon by Catherine Hyde.
The original painting is acrylic on canvas with copper leaf and gold mica, the earth and sky warm with a gilded light that speaks of both ending and beginning.
