THE DECEMBER WEDDING print

This painting was made to mark my December wedding on the Winter Solstice many years ago. It is a celebration of love at the year’s darkest turning, when the world is still, and the promise of light returning. The hare presides, as it always has, over the mysteries of fertility and magic, its ancient association with the moon and with new beginnings making it the perfect witness to a union made in midwinter.

There is a deep serenity to this image — the lovers held within the hare’s world, the winter quiet around them, the sense that something timeless and true is being marked. A December wedding is a brave and beautiful thing: to choose each other at the coldest, darkest point, and to carry that warmth and hope forward into the new year.
