The hare moves through a world of snow that is neither quite landscape nor quite dream — an ambiguous, layered space where the boundaries between earth and sky, between the seen and the imagined, dissolve into white. 

There is a long tradition of the hare as witch and shapeshifter in British folklore — the woman who slips her human skin at midnight and runs the fields in another form, wild and untouchable. This painting holds that ancient, unsettling magic: the hare in the snow, utterly herself, utterly other.

The original painting is acrylic on canvas, built up through many layers of texture to create a space that feels both physical and otherworldly — the surface itself part of the mystery, ambiguous and alive.
