The north wind doth blow, and we shall have snow, and what will the robin do then, poor thing? The old nursery rhyme holds a question that every winter asks: where does the small warm life go when the cold comes in? This painting answers it — the robin stays, bright-breasted against the snow, the berries still red on the branch, the house glowing behind the glass. Outside and inside, cold and warm, the wild and the sheltered: all held in the same winter moment.
This is a painting about the robin’s particular courage — that small, defiant presence in the bleakest weather, as familiar and as comforting as the nursery rhyme itself.
