This is the seventh and final painting in the One for Sorrow series — the last verse of the old magpie counting rhyme, and the most mysterious. Seven magpies in the apple tree, and at its roots a key, buried in the earth, holding a secret that will never be spoken. The apple tree is the tree of knowledge and of the otherworld, its roots going deep into the hidden, and the key at its base is both literal and symbolic — something locked away, something that belongs to the dark and the deep and the unsaid.

The series can be collected individually or as a complete set of seven, each print has its own tree, its own verse, its own piece of old magic.
