Twelfth Night is the traditional end of the Twelve Days of Christmas, a celebration rooted in medieval English customs and possibly even earlier. With a legacy woven through centuries of folklore, literature, and liturgy, it is a powerful reminder of how seasonal festivals once shaped the rhythm of rural and religious life.
On this night, many communities blessed their homes for the coming year. It was time to take down and burn or compost the greenery: the holly, ivy, and mistletoe used to decorate the home for the Winter Solstice/Christmas, returning it to the earth and closing the season's cycle.
