OPEN STUDIOS 2024

LINK TO THE EVENT INCLUDING TIMINGS AND DIRECTIONS: HERE

25th, 26th May and 1st, 2nd June

11 – 5pm

On Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th May and the following weekend, the 1st and 2nd June you are invited to visit me in my ‘Studio in the Sky’ at the top of our Victorian home in Helston.  It is well worth the several flights of stairs to reach my calm beamed attic studio with views out to Godolphin Hill.

This is where I paint and sit to write my poetry and books, quiet and removed from the rest of the house.  Up here, close to the sky, you can feel the Cornish wind that occasionally shakes the granite roots of the house and snug inside, hear the hammer of driving rain.  In the heat of summer, with all the windows open, there is bird song and the call of gulls.  Sometimes, when the breeze is in the right direction the air is maddeningly mixed with the scent of baking pasties.

Studios and workshops are personal spaces and I believe that everything that inspires me: art books, poetry books, fairy tales, shells, stones and fossils, should be with me here in this room where they feel like old friends.  Mine is a high ceilinged cosy room, often messy, although it will be magnificently tidy for two weekends.

When you visit you are welcome to browse, drink tea or wine, eat homemade cake and take in the atmosphere whilst seeing a painting in progress on the easel.

On the walls and around the studio there will be framed and unframed originals, my photographs (my new passion), signed books, prints, and cards to view or buy.

We look forward to seeing you and I look forward to chatting with you.

Just round the corner from me in Station Road you will find the lovely Ria Poole.

Her airy studio and home is a delight to visit and filled with her energetic mixed media landscapes and seascapes.  This year she is joined by BlueBell Ceramics who will be showing sculptural and functional work influenced by the dramatic outstanding beauty of Cornwall.
